The Effects of Birth Order, Being From a Divorced Family or Being Born Out Of Wedlock On Your Potential Mate

Birth Order A few observations of your prospective mate's background can go a long way. Some fundamental circumstances color the ways a person acts in life. Because of circumstances outside your prospective mate's control, you'll have to live with the consequences.

One interesting and indelible influence on a person is their birth order. It may effect how a person sees and asserts themselves. A lot of this theory is like astrology in that it try's to put a stamp on a human being. There is little scientific evidence and a lot of folklore behind these observations.

Adolph Adler, a contemporary of Sigmond Freud, defined birth order characteristics. This is a simplified version taken from the Adler Institute web site.

The only child is the center of attention and often enjoy that position. They may feel special. They may feel difficulty sharing with peers. They can be over-protected and spoiled because of over-attention.

First born's and oldests are more assertive. They may become authoritarian or strict and feel power is their right. They feel they have to hold their superiority over others. Feel that being right and in control is important. If they do not develop responsible behavior, they may become discouraged.

Second born's may tend to be more competitive desiring to overtake the older. There is a tendency to be rebellious. In his or her deep psyche they may always feel someone is ahead of them, someone is more advanced. Feel they are in a race, always trying to catch up. Competition can deteriorate into rivalry.

The middle born is usually even-tempered. May feel unloved or squeezed out if not able to deal with both the olds and youngest in their family. They often learn how to become the peacemakers of situations.

The youngest are frequently spoiled. They'll want others to make decisions and take responsibility. They want to be the biggest and have big plans. They are the life of the party. They often want to get their own way and be serviced as the baby in the family.

Twins may have identity problems. One is usually more stronger or active and will become the leader.

Adopted children often become spoiled by the parents and can become demanding.

Only boy among girls may try to prove he is the man in the family. He may even become effeminate.

Only girl among boys can become very feminine or a tomboy trying to outdo her brothers.

The Effects of a Divorced Family or Born Out Of Wedlock On Your Potential Mate

Enough about birth order.

Consider this, out-of-wedlock births were 7% of the total births in 1965, but have risen to 34% in 2004.

According to the World Almanac 2005 politically correct heading "Non-marital Childbearing" - nearly 70% of black children are born outside of wedlock, 45% for Latinos, 30% for Whites, 15% for Asians. Over 34% of American children born today are born out of wedlock.

Children Born To Non Married Mothers

According to the Heritage Foundation, children born outside of wedlock were
- more likely to engage in early sexual activity and have children out of wedlock

  • 68% exhibit antisocial behavior
  • 24% exhibit more headstrong behavieor
  • 33% exhibit more hyperactive behavior
  • 78% exhibit more peer conflict
  • 53% exhibit more dependency
  • nearly 80% of all children suffering long-term poverty come from broken or never-married families

"Overall, children of never-married mothers have behavioral problems that score nearly three times higher than children raised in comparable intact families."

The moral of this is that you would fare emotionally, economically and more positively overall by being discerning about the nest your mate came from. A romantic relationship with a person who came from an intact home is a prize. Single mother were more likely to be victims of domestic violence. Those born out of wedlock or whose parents divorce are much more likely to have suffered abuse, behavioral and emotional problems. Studies show the effects that result from the breakdown of a marriage are significant.

For children whose parents remain married there are fewer serious social problems to contend with. If you date people who come from parents with existing intact marriages, studies show they will be in overall :

  • better health
  • less likely to become depressed
  • experience fewer developmental problems

Two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:
TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:
TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."
